ABOUT ISO 9001

ISO stands for the International Organization for standardization which was set up in 1947, having his headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1987, 160 countries participated or they became members of the International Organization for Standardization. It has thus published its standard for the first time. They were then later revised in 1994 and it was again revised in 2000. The series comprised of ISO 9001, 9000, 9002, 9003, 9004. ISO 9000 and 9004 are thus considered as established guideline for operation.
ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003 were already considered as well defined standards.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is the body in India which gives the certificate, license and it is also considered as the registering body for the organization (which is said in another country). In India, its headquarter is located in New Delhi and one can approach it through its branches which are located in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Chennai or from the Management system certification or from the head office.
Anybody who wants to work or to register with ISO have to get himself ISO certified. In India, the standards are in much-generalized form whereas the ISO standards give perfect sets of standard codes which are required to be followed. An application is to be filed for ISO Certification in which details regarding business is to be provided including registered address, nature of business, number of years in operation etc., The central ISO company will verify the documents and conducts an audit for confirming whether the company is eligible for certification or not. ISO certificate is issued by proper ISO authority for your organization and an audit is conducted every year for ensuring that quality management systems are as per standards. Validity of ISO Registration: The certificate can be taken for One year or for maximum period of Three years.
